According to a 2016 Barna study, our culture used to believe Christianity was irrelevant but now sees it as dangerous. Ninety percent of unbelievers think religious extremism is a threat to society and forty-five percent consider Christianity "extremist."
This shouldn't surprise us, but it does.
Why? Because:
1. We think we're living in a Christian culture, but we aren't.
2. We think that everyone will love Jesus like we do, but they won't.
3. We think being Christ-like will make us popular, but it won't.
4. We don't realize we're involved in spiritual battle, but we are.
We need to remember these words of our Savior:
“If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first... I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you... They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me... Whoever hates me hates my Father as well. ...‘They hated me without reason.’" John 15:18-25
Nothing is more important that serving and representing our Savior to the world. When we are hated by men, we can be confident that we are loved by God (1 John 3:1).
